GierleIn Galerie Anita Fleerackers, the work of Noorderwijk artist Marcel Mertens can still be admired this and next weekend. His paintings are timeless and internationally distributed.

Born and raised in the Herental borough of Noorderwijk, Marcel Mertens is the third generation of painter and artist in his family. Known in the region and far beyond, the artistic family received commissions for the church of Noorderwijk and the Antwerp chocolatier Del Rey, for example.

The artist from Kempen pairs his talent with craft and respect for the material. “Marcel is a master at making his own paint, a technique that has become rare,” said Anita Fleerackers, herself internationally known for her painting and sculpture.

‘Making the paint is the start of his for Marcel. artistic career. Everything starts with good quality paint. At the academy of Herentals, he spent an entire year researching how to make paint with Tpigment powder, linseed oil, turpentine and dry matter. No shade of color is foreign to him. You can safely call him a grand master of color development, which is rare and therefore so unique.’

Marcel Mertens strung together the greatest awards at the academies of Herentals and Lier. His works are. timeless and internationally distributed. “Many customers took his artworks to Spain, Germany, France and the Netherlands,” Anita Fleerackers knows. ‘He knows how to move everyone with his fine primal techniques in which he makes his subjects shine. His subjects are bathed in soft light, expertly rendered and shaded. Marcel is stubbornly soft in character, which you can clearly see in his work.’ (Bala)

In Galerie Anita Fleerackers (Hemeldonk 9 in Gierle) Marcel Mertens is exhibiting together with John Hoelen, Tessa Renders, Stef Janssens, Michèle Voeten and Annette Defoort. Today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or by appointment.
