The gallery of Anita Fleerackers in Gierle has launched the new exhibition for the month of April. Marcel Mertens (86), born and raised in Noorderwijk, is this month’s central guest. “Marcel Mertens grew up in a family of painters, fine painters and artists. In the business of his parents, who took over the métier from their parents, Marcel is third generation fine painter and artist,” explained Anita Fleerackers. “The family of painters is known in the region and far beyond. Marcel is a master at making his own paint, a technique that has become rare.”
At the academy in Herentals, the painter spent an entire year researching how to make paint with powdered pigments, linseed oil, turpentine and dry matter. “No shade of color is foreign to Marcel,” stresses Anita Fleerackers. “His works are timeless and internationally distributed. Many clients took his artworks to Spain, Germany, France and the Netherlands.”
Marcel Mertens is still exhibiting along with John John Hoelen, Tessa Renders, Stef Janssens, Michèle Voeten and Annette Defoort. The gallery is open April 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27 and 28, each time from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or by appointment. (bvdl)
